New Delhi: CNN-IBN had on Tuesday brought the story of a woman who was allegedly raped by a DIG. The story has now forced the authorities to act. Rajasthan police Additional Director General Kanhaiya Lal has told CNN-IBN that the police have now started the process of investigations.
He said more teams will formed to trace the DIG Madhukar Tandon who has been absconding after the rape.
Malli Devi was allegedly kidnapped and raped by former DIG Madhukar Tandon 13 years ago. Her husband was then serving as the orderly to the former DIG who has been absconding since the rape.
The Congress had even promised justice for Malli Devi in its election manifesto in 1998 and conveniently forgot about it.
Rajasthan Home Minister, Shanti Dhariwal, defended the government saying, "It (the rape) didn't take place during our government. It is an old case, but we will get it looked into."
But now with the clamour for justice for Ruchika getting louder and Malli Devi's case suspiciously similar - that of a powerful cop getting away almost scot free and being shielded by the political and police connections - the hunt for Tandon has just been renewed.
Meanwhile, Malli Devi - who has been let down by all governments in Rajasthan, BJP or Congress - is hoping for her prolonged battle for justice to end soon.
