Lucknow: Spurned by the woman he loved, a man blew himself up at her wedding to another man, police said on Saturday.
Five members of the bride's family were injured in the explosion on Friday, said Vikramaditya Sewar, a police officer in Hardoi, where the incident occurred.
Netrapal Singh, a 28-year-old electrician, tied crude bombs to his waist and entered the wedding venue disguised as a woman in a sari and bangles, Sewar said.
The bride's family, which had anticipated trouble from Singh, spotted him just as he was approaching the groom, Sewar said.
They pushed him away from the groom, and Singh then triggered the explosion, Sewar said.
Singh died at the scene, while five members of the bride's family were injured, he said. The extent of their injuries was not immediately clear.
The bride and groom were unhurt, he said.
Police said the bride's family maintains that Singh's love was one-sided and that the woman never reciprocated.
Hardoi is about 80 kilometers south of Lucknow.
