CHENNAI: India has been termed the heart disease capital of the world, but eating home-cooked food is the key to erase this dubious distinction, popular chef Sanjeev Kapoor said here on Thursday. “With Indians, traditional home-cooked food is never the villain. The cuisine promotes healthy food like spinach and mixed vegetables. The problem is largely lifestyle-related,” the master-chef told City Express.Kapoor was speaking on the sidelines of a workshop on healthy cooking organised by Apollo Hospitals, as part of its ‘Billion Hearts Beating Campaign’.The top chef gave tips on heart-friendly diet, including avoiding high fat items and adding brown rice to menu. As part of the workshop, Kapoor whipped up four nutritious dishes that could easily be made at home. Prior to his demonstration, N Sathyabhama, director of medical services, Apollo Hospitals, noted that till date, more than one lakh heart procedures were performed at the hospital.“From being a health condition affecting urban India, heart problems today have penetrated to semi-urban and rural parts of the country,” said I Sathyamoorthy, director of Cardiology.
