High Court warns junior doctors on flash strikes

If junior doctors go on flash strikes in future, appropriate proceedings under the Contempt of Court Act will have to be initiated against them, the High Court has warned.

A division bench comprising acting chief justice PC Ghose and justice Noushad Ali gave the warning on Friday while closing the cases filed on the recent strike by junior doctors.

When a public interest petition was filed complaining about flash strikes by junior doctors and the government’s apathy, the bench observed that junior doctors could not go on strike without giving three days’ notice to the government to allow it to address their problems.

When junior doctors went on a flash strike now, a contempt case was filed. The contempt case and the main case were listed together for Friday. The bench was informed by the government pleader that the issue had been settled.

The bench, while closing the cases, said that such things should not be repeated by junior doctors.
