Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat on Saturday advocated creation of a zero-pollution zone in the hill state to present a model of environment conservation to the world.

Inaugurating the week-long International Yoga Festival in Rishikesh, Rawat spoke at length about the fragile Himalayan ecology and said creation of a zero-pollution zone in the hill state will tell the world about the ways through which Himalayas can be preserved.

Congratulating the organisers of the festival, he said yoga is a major component of India's identity and organizing the event on such a scale is an effective way of showcasing the country's cultural heritage.

He said a corpus fund of Rs 10 crore is being created to organise the event on a larger scale.

Rawat, who was accompanied by his Cabinet colleague Amrita Rawat, said departments concerned have also been asked to prepare a vision document to suggest ways to hold the event on a larger scale.
