Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy on Tuesday announced in the assembly that the government had evolved a Rs 150 crore drinking water project exclusively for Karaikal to ensure that hygienically uninterrupted drinking water was available in the region.

Replying to the complaints made by PR Siva (AINRC) during question time that the water was not hygienically sound and there were complaints from Tirunallar that consumers developed symptoms of renal ailments and hence there should be proper treatment of water to drink, Rangasamy said the Rs 150 crore plan was awaiting Centre`s nod.

Members belonging to the opposition AIADMK expressed concern over the frequent tussle arising out of the functioning of the fake Human Rights organisations in Puducherry. Om Sakthi Segar (AIADMK) wanted the government to take steps to ban such outfits.
