A former DCP of the Commissioner’s Task Force and another police official were interrogated on Thursday about a case of phone tapping and the destruction of official digital data from government records.
The suspects are accused of allegedly tapping the phone of the opposition leaders at the behest of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi government and also destroying computer systems and official data.
BRS working president KT Rama Rao urged Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to order a probe even as the Congress and BJP said their phones had been tapped.
Earlier, two additional superintendents of police were arrested for allegedly colluding with a suspended DSP of the SIB named Praneeth Rao.
Rao is accused of erasing intelligence information from electronic devices and engaging in unauthorised phone tapping during the previous Telangana government’s tenure.
As part of the probe, the police issued a lookout circular against the former SIB chief T Prabhakar Rao, the then deputy commissioner of police P Radhakrishna, and a senior executive of a Telugu TV channel. They are suspected of not cooperating with the investigation and may have left the country.
Praneeth Rao, who was recently suspended by the Telangana government, previously worked as a DSP and later in the office of the Director General of Police. He has been accused of tapping the phones of opposition party leaders.
Based on a complaint filed by an additional superintendent of police from the Special Intelligence Bureau, a case has been registered against Praneeth Rao and others for criminal breach of trust, causing the disappearance of evidence, criminal conspiracy, and other charges.
It was reported that Praneeth Rao was detained on March 13 by the police. They claimed that he had created profiles of unknown people, secretly and unlawfully monitored them, and deleted certain computer systems and official data.
The case involves the alleged destruction of computer systems and official data from the SIB, as well as the unauthorized collection of intelligence information.
