New York: According to a survey, a majority of US citizens thinks that China, rather than India, would be a superpower in ten years with most more concerned about its military strength than its economic power.

Currently, only two per cent think India is a superpower but 20 per cent believe it would attain that position in the next decade, the Harris poll showed.

But 70 per cent think that China would a superpower in ten years followed by the European Union (31 per cent), Britain (25 per cent), India and Russia (15 per cent).

The poll says that Americans appear to be more concerned about the potential of economic and military growth in China than the EU, India, Japan, Russia and Britain.

At present, 67 per cent think that the US is an economic superpower followed by Japan (30 per cent), China (29 per cent), Britain (18 per cent), European Union (14 per cent), Russia (6 per cent) and India (2 per cent).

However, more than half the respondents expressed extreme concern about China's military strength, the poll showed.

While half of US people think that no country or regions will be stronger than the US in 10 years, four in 10 (42 per cent) think that China will be stronger than the US.
