CHENNAI: The revised fee list formulated by Justice Raviraja Pandian Private School Fee Determination Committee reached most schools across the State on Tuesday, except 242 schools in Chennai district, which will receive the same on Wednesday. Compared to the previous report published in May 2010 by the committee, most schools have been prescribed a fee higher by 5-15 per cent. The newly-released fee structure pertains to 6,400 private schools across the State, which had appealed against the list published by the committee in May 2010. These schools had approached the HC citing the school fees as too low, in response to which a revised fee list was announced. The revised fee structure, released on Monday to the respective district chief educational officers, reached the schools only on Tuesday morning. The fees announced were in five slabs—LKG-UKG, I-V, VI-VIII, IX-X, XI-XII, with each slab carrying a different fee amount. Though every school in the State received a customised fee table based on parameters like its infrastructure and teacher remuneration levels, LKG-UKG fees for most schools were commonly over `2,000-`3,000 per year, while for Class XI and XII, a fee up to `18,000 per year was prescribed. This is at least `7,000 higher than the upper limit prescribed by the previous committee report. In Chennai district, only 291 of the 533 schools that sought revision were given their new fee details on Tuesday. “We planned to distribute it on June 13,” said Thirugnana Sambandham, special officer of the panel. “We, however, needed another day to complete the auditing process, because of which only 291 schools could be given the fee structure. The others will receive it on Wednesday,” he added.
