The District Administration in the past few days stopped five instances of attempted minor marriage.
In all the cases, the officials received specific tip offs that the girls had not reached the marriageable age. They then went to the spot, inquired and stalled the weddings.
Sources said Kausalya, daughter of Balakrishnan and Manivel (22), son of Periasamy, also of Naranamangalam, were all sest to marry. District Social Welfare Officer K Pechiammal, Revenue Divisional Officer R Revathi held a spot inquiry after a tip off. School records of Kausalya revealed that she was under 18 years.
The marriages of Sumathi (15), daughter of Alagappan with Thirunavukkarasu (28), son of Thirumalai and Chitra (16), daughter of Krishnasamy of Ladapuram, with Rangaraju (22), son of Periakaundar of Naranamangalam, were stopped.
Similarly, the officials succeded in stoping the wedding of Saranya (16), with Manivel (27), and Gauri (16), with Mathialagan (25).
