BANGALORE: Eighteen-year-old Chetan, a factory worker, lost both his hands while working on the paper cutting machine at a printing press on September 20. But with timely treatment, time sense displayed by his friend and medical expertise he was cured and will be able to lead a normal life like everyone now.During the successful four-and-a-half hours surgery, the doctors rejoined both his amputated arms.“Had his friends and colleagues not  displayed the time sense by preserving his amputated arms above the wrist in a plastic bag, Chetan would have been permanently disabled,” said Dr Vasudeva K, orthopedic surgeon at Panacea Hospital, Bangalore.“The incident took place on September 20 and now after a week, he is experiencing flickering of finger tips, an indication that he is recovering,” said Dr Priyadashan, consultant plastic and Micro Vascular surgeon, Panacea Hospital.A great fan of cricket, Chetan wishes to get back to work after recovery. “I would be able to help my family financially,” he said, who financially supports his family after his father’s death. Emphasising on the early intervention, the doctors said that industrial and road  accidents are very common. However, during such incidents, if people take prompt action by preserving the amputated organ in a tight plastic bag and immediately get the victim to a hospital, it can be rejoined.Chetan will remain hospitalised for eight more days and later he is expected to visit the hospital one in five days for the follow up check up.
