Energy conservation week begins

CHENNAI: Electricity Minister Natham R Viswanathan flagged off a rally here on Wednesday to stress on the importance of saving electricity, marking the start of the Energy Conservation Awareness Week from December 14 to 20. Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (TANGEDCO) and the State Electrical Inspectorate hold several programmes every year to create an awareness about the scarce nature of electricity and the need to save.Students from colleges and employees of TANGEDCO participated in the rally at the Marina beach. Pamphlets on measures to save electricity were distributed to the people.  According to officials, TANGEDCO and the Electrical Inspectorate have scheduled programmes including rallies, human chains, contests for school and college students as part of the awareness initiative through the week. Such programmes will be held across Tamil Nadu.
