A joint team of Food Department and Revenue Department officials of Raipur District Administration on Sunday booked eight rice mills for failing to meet the target of custom milling and seized paddy, rice and broken rice worth about Rs 18.39 crore, sources said.
The cases have been registered against errant rice millers under Levy Control Order 2007 and Essential Commodities Act (ESMA) for the violation of terms and conditions of Custom Milling. "The officials raided 17 rice mills in Raipur district on Sunday and booked eight of them for its failure to comply with the norms of custom milling," Food Controller Dayamani Minj said. Four rice mills of Abhanpur Development Bblock and two rice mills each of Tilda and Dharsiva Development Blocks have been booked for flouting the norms of custom milling, Minj added.
