New Delhi: With the Capital high on terrorists' radar, Delhi Police will form "very soon" an elite 'Quick Reaction Team' (QRT) comprising commandos armed with sophisticated weapons to counter any Mumbai-like terror attacks in the city.
The QRT will be a "mobile force" which will be on the move in various parts of the capital so that their reaction to an event could be as fast as possible.
Policemen who were given commando training will be part of the elite strike force of the city police. Those chosen will be given further training and will be armed with sophisticated weapons.
"The process of forming the QRT is in fast pace. This force will help tackle any hostage-like situation or terror attacks in the city in places like shopping malls," a senior police official said.
The forces' personnel will be fanned across the capital and commandos will be attached with policemen on the field, the official said.
In the backdrop of the Mumbai terror strikes, security in the Capital has been strengthened, especially at crowded places, malls, rail and bus stations, educational institutions and religious places.
"There was a general alert from the intelligence agencies. We have deployed all our trained personnel after the input," the official said.
Police are also collecting the layout plans of various buildings in the city so as to familiarise themselves with their topography to avoid confusion in case of any action against terrorists.
