The accused, Manoj, threw acid on the girls while they were on way to a market, police said. Manoj, who is already married, had proposed to one of the girls but she had declined his proposal, police said.
The women have been admitted to the Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital and were referred to Lok Nayak Janprakash Hospital. A doctor at Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital said, "Two girls were admitted with 50 per cent and 18 per cent burns. After initial treatement they were referred to LNJP hospital as we don't have a burns department here."
Mother of one the victims said, "He used to trouble my daughter in the past and now he attacked her with acid. I want him jailed."
The police have identified the suspect and a search is on. The women reportedly knew the accused. Additional SP Sanjay Kumar said, "The culprits have been identified. Investigation is on to find them.
The passers-by tried to catch Manoj but he managed to flee from the spot.
