Kolkata Ignoring West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee's wish that he should not take part in the elections for Cricket Association of Bengal, Jagmohan Dalmiya on Friday filed his nomination for the post of the president.
Dalmiya, who has been occupying the president's post in the CAB for over one and half decade, entered the race as a nominee from Rajasthan Club, according to his close associate Goutam Dasgupta.
Bhattacharjee had made a public statement that Dalmiya should stay away from the polls and entrusted state sports minister Subhas Chakraborty to convince Dalmiya to fall in line.
That Dalmiya would seek re-election became obvious on Thursday after Chakraborty said that he had failed in his mission to persuade Dalmiya not to contest the polls.
Along with Dalmiya, his camp followers also threw their hats into the ring for various posts.
While sitting joint secretaries Saradindu Pal and Amitava Chatterjee would seek re-election, S K Kalyani would vie for another term for the treasurer's post.
The four vice-presidential candidates from the group are Asit Chatterjee, Subhas Bose, former Bengla cricketer Rushi Jijibhoy and Nemai Dutta.
