The bail petition filed by DYFI state secretary T V Rajesh MLA, the 39th accused in the Shukkoor murder case, was rejected by the Judicial First Class Magistrate court here on Tuesday.
T V Rajesh, who surrendered before the court here on Monday following the dismissal of his petition for anticipatory bail by the High Court, was remanded in judicial custody till August 27 and kept in the Kannur Central Prison.
The plea for bail filed by the MLA was taken up for consideration by the JFCM court on Tuesday.
Special public prosecutor C K Sreedharan argued that the High Court had rejected the petition for anticipatory bail filed by the accused and that the reasons cited by the High Court for denial of anticipatory bail remained valid in the petition for bail filed in the JFCM court also.
The special prosecutor also pointed out that the bail petition filed by another accused in the case, P Jayarajan, charged with the same offence under Section 118, was rejected by the High Court.
Therefore, there was no relevance for a bail petition by T V Rajesh now, he argued. Counsel for T V Rajesh, B P Saseendran, argued that as an MLA, he needed some special considerations and that people of his constituency wanted his assistance as their representative.
There was no reason to believe that Rajesh who is an MLA and state secretary of the DYFI would go into hiding if he is released on bail, he argued.
The court rejected the arguments and extended the remand till August 27.
A large gathering of CPM and DYFI supporters had turned up on the premises of the JFCM court.
