Bhopal: Days after a Congress MLA in Madhya Pradesh accused a young woman of blackmailing him with false rape charges, a video of a co-accused surfaced on Saturday, in which he claims he is being threatened by the MLA and police officials.
The already murky MLA honey trap case got even murkier on Saturday when Vikramjit Singh, a co-accused in the case said he feared for his life.
Singh has been accused of extorting money from Congress MLA Hemant Katare in connivance with a girl and has been absconding ever since police booked him based on a complaint filed by the legislator.
The video surfaced in social media on Saturday, in which he charged the MLA of framing him in the case unnecessarily.
“I was in fact helping him settle the matter with the girl on her request. Now, he is accusing me of extorting money in connivance with the girl,” he says in the video.
Singh, in a letter to the MP Director General of Police, RK Shukla has asked for a fair probe in the case.
The girl, a journalism student, sent ripples in the political circles of Madhya Pradesh a few days ago when she uploaded a video on social media claiming she had an affair with the MLA Katare and had broken up.
Katare then raised a complaint with the police, accusing the girl of blackmailing him. While the girl was arrested, her associate Vikramjit Singh, who has now released his own video, is still at large.
Things were further complicated with another video of the girl going viral on Thursday afternoon in which, the girl apologized to the MLA and said the earlier video was a prank.
Katare, in his complaint, has accused the girl of threatening her with false rape charges and trying to extort Rs 2 crore from him.
The controversy has now taken a political colour after a picture of Singh with MP Chief Minister and BJP leader Shivraj Singh Chouhan started doing the rounds on social media on Friday.
Congress spokesperson Pankaj Chaturvedi hinted at a grave conspiracy behind the incident while BJP spokesperson Rajnish Agrawal treaded cautiously, saying the matter should be probed and the truth let out.
Katare, son of late senior Congress leader Satyadev Katare, represents the Ater assembly constituency in Bhind.
