Condemning the incident of attack on youngsters, who had gathered for a party in a homestay in Mangalore on Saturday night, Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar has promised to take stringent action against the culprits.

He spoke to reporters on Sunday morning at his official residence Cauvery here after discussing with the Deputy Chief Minister and Home minister R Ashok on the incident. Shettar said that the district police have been given strict instructions to take the matter seriously and deal with the issue with iron hand.

“As many as eight persons have been rounded-up  for the incident,” Shettar said.

Expressing anguish over the incident  in which few girls and  boys were attacked by a group of activists when they were celebrating a birthday party, Chief Minister informed that the government will not tolerate anyone who takes law onto their hands. He added that the police have recovered the video clippings and identified those who are responsible for the incident.

Home Minister R Ashok, who also spoke to the media after his meeting with the Chief Minister has condemned the Mangalore incident and promised to initiate strict measures against the culprits. Meanwhile, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP Law and Order) Bipin Gopalakrishna has gone to Mangalore to investigate.

A group of activists allegedly belonging to Hindu Jagarana Vedike had raided on a home-stay located in the outskirts of the Coastal town on Saturday and attacked the youths including women celebrating a birthday party. The attackers accusing the youths holding a rave party had beaten them and held them hostages inside the home-stay until the police team arrived and freed them. The incident is also likely to be discussed in both Houses of the Karnataka Legislature which would re-assemble on Monday. Both the Congress and the JD(S) members are expected to put the government on mat owing to  Mangalore attack.
