BANGALORE:   The State government told the Legislative Council on Wednesday that it is seriously contemplating to strengthen the security at Parappana Agrahara Central Jail by deploying contingents of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) following an attack on a jail official inmates of the prison. In response to a notice made by the Congress member R V Venkatesh, during Zero hour in the house, Social Welfare and Prisons Minister A Narayanaswamy informed that the security at Parappana Agrahara Jail which has housed a huge number of prisoners will be strengthened with more security personnel to prevent any such violent incidents in the future. “The jail has 4,253 inmates, including convicts and the undertrials against its the intake of 2,500,” he said.Informing that the culprit of the attack on the prison staff, Korangu Krishna has been shifted to Bellary Jail, the minister said that government has plans to take the services of Central Industrial Security Force  to strengthen the security ring in the Central Jail.The Congress member, in his submission,  also charged that all kinds of illegal things are being witnessed inside the jail, including free supply of narcotic materials like ganja, cigarette and the use of mobile phones with impunity. Taking consideration of the congestion of the jail, some members also suggested the government to opt for building another jail. However, rejecting the suggestion to build a new prison, the minister, in a lighter vein, advised the members “not to dream about another jail in the city.”
