NELLORE: Rumours of 60 people falling sick after taking antifilaria tablets as part of a threeday antifilaria drive in Gudamgunta village of Kavali rural mandal in the district has sent people into a tizzy.
However, district medical and health officer (DMHO) Masila Mani dismissed the reports as baseless and clarified that there have been no such cases in Kavali or elsewhere in the district. He explained that when people take the tablets on an empty stomach or those suffering from diabetics, there will be slight uneasiness for some time but there is no cause to worry. However, the DMHO said the antifilaria tablets should not be given to children below two years but unfortunately a twoyearold child in Kavali rural mandal was given the tablet. The boy fell sick after taking the tablets and was immediately brought to the PHC. After giving first aid and ensuring that he was alright, he was discharged, the medical officer said.
