Mumbai: Sujata Nikalje, wife of gangster Chhota Rajan, filed a fresh bail petition in a special court on Tuesday.
She asked the court to grant her bail on the ground that she had been “wrongly” booked under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).
Nikalje was arrested under MCOCA on December 14 in an extortion case. Police alleged that she had threatened builders in Ghatkopar and Chembur areas of northeast Mumbai and accepted Rs 5 lakh from a builder.
Nikalje's lawyer Satish Maneshinde said his client must be granted bail, as she had been in custody since December and had a three-year-old child to care for.
He said there was no evidence against Nikalje under MCOCA and she was not member of any crime syndicate. Nikalje chartered accountant is under arrest in the same case
Designated judge Abhay Thipsay would hear the new petition on May 9, as public prosecutor sought time to file a reply.
