Raipur: Chhattisgarh earned a whopping Rs 4,185 crore as sales tax over the past three years from petrol, diesel and cooking gas, the state Assembly was informed on Wednesday.
In a written reply to Congress member Ravindra Choubey, Commercial Tax Minister Amar Agrawal informed the Assembly that from petrol the government had earned sales tax of Rs 322.97 crore in 2010-11, Rs 416.88 crore in 2011-12, and Rs 368.22 crore by January 31 during fiscal year 2012-13.
The government earned from diesel sales tax Rs 936.96 crore in 2010-11, Rs 1,137.72 crore in year 2011-12 and Rs 970.45 crore by January 31 in 2012-13, he said.
The state collected Rs 9.84 crore from sales tax on cooking gas in year 2010-11, Rs 11.62 crore in 2011-12 and Rs 10.90 crore by January 31 in 2012-13, the minister said.
