BANGALORE: Poet and former Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Chandrashekhar Patil (Champa) has said that Kannada writers who became Members of Legislative Council (MLC) did not do much for the development of Kannada language. Speaking at a felicitation programme organised by the Parishat, Champa said that no political party is concerned about Kannada language. “When issues related to Kannada come up in the Assembly, no MLA stands up and speaks. Also, MLCs, who are basically writers, did not do any pro-Kannada works. It is really unfortunate,” he regretted. “If any Kannada works are visible today, it is not because of any Kannada official or minister, but its because of the people’s movement,” he observed. “There is a need for unity among various pro- Kannada organisations,” he stated.Champa said that giving funds to KSP is not a favour. “It is the money which belongs to Kannadigas and it is government’s duty to pay them back,” he noted.
