Ghatasthapana is forbidden during Amavasya and at night. The most auspicious period to perform Ghatasthapana is the first one-third of the day, when Pratipada Tithi is prevalent. If this period is not accessible, Ghatasthapana can be performed at Abhijit Muhurta.
