CBI clears air on Telgi narco analysis
CBI said the narco-analysis test was done on orders of Special Investigating Team that was probing the case earlier.

New Delhi: The CBI said on Wednesday that all the leads emerging from narco analysis test of fake stamp paper kingpin Abdul Karim Telgi were pursued and the chargesheet was filed only after further corroboratory evidence had been established.

Reacting to the CDs aired by television channels, the spokesman said the narco-analysis examination was conducted on orders of Special Investigating Team, Pune, which was probing the case before it was transferred to CBI on the directions of the Supreme Court.

The order of the Mumbai court, which had directed narco analysis test of Telgi and others, had been challenged at Mumbai High Court by some accused persons including former MLA Anil Gote, which was however, rejected by the court.

The accused then moved the Supreme Court which ordered in March 2004 that no narco analysis test would be conducted on the accused till further orders, the spokesman pointed out adding the matter is still pending in Apex Court.

The Apex Court will be hearing the petition on September 11, 2002.

About the narco-analysis test conducted on Telgi, the spokesman said, "the leads which emerged during the examination were perused. Depending upon the further corroboratory evidence, the chargesheet has been filed."

Telgi's narco analysis was conducted in connection with the case registered at Bund Garden Police station in Pune. The registering of the case and investigation into it blew the lid off the entire multi-crore scam.
