Boy drowns in sea after I-Day festivity

NAGERCOIL: A 14-year-old schoolboy drowned in the sea off Changuthurai near Pallam on Monday after a giant wave swept him away.Srikanth (14) of Government High School in Vallankumaranvilai near NGO Colony had gone to Changuthurai beach along with five of his friends after the Independence Day celebrations in the afternoon. The boys started returning to the shore after bathing in the sea. When Srikanth went to the sea to wash his feet, a giant wave swept him away into the sea. His friends cried for help and people on the shore rushed to save Srikanth, but their efforts were in vain. The Suchinduram police recovered his body from near the Sothavilai beach.
