BJS to contest UP Assembly polls
BJS announces its plans to contest Assembly polls in UP to wipe out corruption and criminalisation of politics.

Bhopal: Bhartiya Janshakti (BJS) on Wednesday announced its plans to contest next Assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh with an aim to wipe out corruption and criminalisation of politics.

"Though our party is only three months and 23 days old, we will contest next Assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh with an aim to wipe out corruption and criminalisation from the state politics," BJS president Uma Bharti said.

The announcement came after Uma procured bail from a local court in a case related to circulation of a BJP poll campaign booklet, without printline, in the run-up to last Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections in 2003.

BJS will accept support during the polls from any party that "wins its trust and share the common goal," she said.

On whether BJS will strike alliance with BJP, the fiery sanyasin said the saffron party will have to "win our trust as it had fielded listed criminals and those having association with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, during last elections".

Accusing Madhya Pradesh government of failing to control crime, she claimed that corruption and criminalisation during BJP rule was more than that was seen in previous Congress rule.

"I had quit as Chief Minister as I reposed faith in Delhi-based BJP leaders. But the new leader of the state is not able to handle affairs," she alleged.

To a query, she said BJS, that was carrying out a membership drive with an aim to form 11 members at every polling station, will decide on contesting bypolls for Vidisha Lok Sabha and Bada Malhara Assembly seats, after August 30.
