KOCHI: Green Chemistry, the  concept of chemical  research and engineering that encourages the design of products and processes that minimise the use and generation of hazardous substances, is evolving as one of the main streams of Science, Cusat Safety and Fire Engineering division head, G Madhu said. He was addressing a national seminar on Green Chemistry as part of Swashraya Bharat 2011 organised by Swadeshi Science Movement at School of Environment Studies,Cusat, here on Wednesday. The Green Chemistry focuses on minimising hazard and maximising the efficiency of any chemical choice in industries to protect the environment from pollution. He said that there were many techniques and equipment being introduced nowadays for averting major mishaps in industries."If the concept like Green Chemistry had been there earlier, we  could have averted major mishaps like Bhopal Gas Tragedy," Madhu said. Swadeshi Science Movement president V P N Namboodiri presided over the function.
