The three-time Formula One world champion was just 34 when he died on May 1, 1994. Driving for the Williams, Senna ran off the track into a concrete wall during the San Marino Grand Prix.

Senna, born on March 21, 1960, in Brazil, was the son of a wealthy family. Following the Formula One races from an early age, the Brazilian won his very first go-karting race at the age of 13.

Senna also drove for Toleman, Lotus, Williams and most famously for McLaren. He started his motorsport career in karting, moved up to open-wheel racing in 1981, and with his sharp driving skills clinched the British Formula 3 championship in 1983.

The Brazilian made his F1 debut with Toleman-Hart in 1984 before joining Lotus-Renault the following year. He won six Grands Prix with Lotus-Renault.

Racing for McLaren-Honda In 1988 alongside the legendary Alain Prost, Senna dominated the entire season and lifted his first Formula One driving title. The victory also gave birth to the feud between Senna and Prost.

Though Prost came back to claim the championship in 1989, Senna made a strong return to win his second and third championships in 1990 and 1991.

After his victory in 1991, Senna had said, "Whoever you are, no matter what social position you have, rich or poor, always show great strength and determination, and always do everything with much love and deep faith in God. One day you will reach your goal."

Senna finished the 1993 season as runner-up. In 1994, he moved to Willliams, who started dominating the F1 with Williams-Renault combination. In the various motorsports polls, Senna has been voted as one of the greatest of all time.
