BANGALORE: The Koramangala police arrested a 27-year-old man who allegedly extorted money from a hotel staffer in the guise of police. The accused Manjunath is a son of an ASI with City Armed Reserve south division. He was residing at the CAR police quarters in Adugodi.According to the police, Manjunath allegedly stopped a person riding a mobike identified as Suresh, a hotel staffer, near Lakshmi Park in Koramangala on Tuesday. Suresh introduced himself as policeman from Koramangala police station and questioned the victim about not wearing the helmet. Later, he asked for his driving licence and took Rs 500 cash, a mobile phone and asked him to collect his scooter the next day.“Suspicious about the incident, Suresh immediately came to Koramangala police station and informed the police. Two police in plain clothes went to the spot along with Suresh. Manjunath, without knowing they were police, told the policemen he was from  the crime branch and tried to threaten them. But the policemen arrested him,” the police explained. Koramangala police have registered a case in connection.Man Consumes Poison by Mistake, Succumbs A 56-year-old who consumed poison mistaking it for medicine was  hospitalised, where he succumbed in the wee hours of Wednesday. The deceased R Chandrappa, was a resident of Bilekahalli near Bannerghatta Road.Police said that Chandrappa was ailing and was under medication. Mistaking pesticide for medicine, he had consumed it on March 17 and was being treated at Victoria Hospital. He succumbed on Wednesday.Mico Layout police registered a case of unnatural death in this connection.Mentally Disturbed Youth Ends LifeDejected over life, a 25-year-old mentally challenged youth ended his life by hanging at his residence in Devanahalli Town on Tuesday. Harish, the deceased, was the son of M Nalloorappa.Police said that Harish was helping his father in their grocery store in Devanahalli. Reportedly, he had told his parents that he was depressed as he could not help the family and had told them that he was a burden to the family. When  he was alone at the home on Tuesday, he hanged himself in a room. Her husband had admitted her to Victoria Hospital, where she succumbed on Wednesday.Jewellery Federation Secy ArrestedUlsoor Gate police arrested the secretary of Karnataka Jewellers Federation’s secretary A R S Babu on charges of extortion. Police said two cases of threatening were lodged against him by jewellers. Allegedly, he used to demand money from jewellers and threatened that he would file false cases against them if they did not  heed to his demands. Based on the complaint, by jewellers from the city he was arrested.
