Muzaffarnagar: CBI has begun probe into the murder of a prime witness in a rape case against self-styled godman Asaram Bapu, and got all documents from the local police. According to SHO of Newmandi police station AK Singh, all papers in connection with the Akhil Gupta murder case were handed over to the CBI on Friday.
The Uttar Pradesh government had on July 24 recommended a CBI probe into the murder of Gupta in a rape case against Asaram Bapu. 35-year-old Akhil was shot at by unidentified persons on January 11 this year. Subsequently, he was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead.
He was a cook and personal aide of 74-year-old Asaram, who has been in jail since August, 2013, for allegedly sexually assaulting a 16-year-old schoolgirl.
