HYDERABAD: Minister for Information Technology Ponnala Lakshmaiah on Wednesday informed about establishment of the Amazon company in Hyderabad. Already, the authorities concerned have taken steps for setting up the company with an investment of about Rs 500 crore and employment for 7,000 IT professionals in next three years, he noted.
The Government has allocated 10 acres of land near Nanakramguda in 2006, but the issue was pending due to a legal dispute. A delegation led by Amazon IT company vicepresident John Schutler met Ponnala at the Secretariat on Wednesday and held discussions on the proposed project. At present, the company has its offices at Chennai and Bengaluru.Talking to newsmen, the IT minister claimed investments continue to pour into Andhra Pradesh despite prevailing political disturbances. The Amazon company would initially set up its office on a two lakh square feet plinth area with a staff of about 3,300. The IT minister hoped the dispute would be resolved shortly. Besides the government's initiative, the existing infrastructure facilities in Hyderabad has been attracting investments into IT sector. "The government has recognised IT as an essential service and accordingly exempted power cuts to these services," he claimed.
