KOCHI: The nurses’ strike at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences grew stronger with about 150 more nurses joining the agitation. “Almost all the unions, Trained Nurses Association and the public lent support,” said Shihab, State Committee member, United Nurses Association.“The members submitted a memorandum to Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan. He said he would try to resolve the issue. The management is not willing to comply with their demands to hike the wages and relaxing our working hours or contracts,” said Shihab.Mayor Tony Chammany visited the hospital. On inquiry it was found that he had been beaten up by the security staff, two of whom have been arrested by the police, while one is at large.With the current turn of events, District Collector P I Sheikh Pareeth joined the discussions held at night.
