Bangalore: Bangalore may have been revelling in the Gayle storm at the Indian Premier League (IPL) match, but its most famous cricket stadium has been hit by a different storm. A tussle between the cricket association and the municipal board over free tickets to the match has meant no garbage collection.
There are heaps of uncollected garbage bags and an unbearable stench.
The corporation decided not to collect garbage from the stadium, reportedly upset that the association refused its demand for 450 VVIP tickets for IPL.
However, the corporation didn't just stop there.
The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) resorted to getting private garbage collectors to remove the garbage out of the stadium and what the BBMP did is to cease the private trucks on Tuesday. So what this meant is that piles of garbage bags continue to remain inside the stadium.
The civic body insists only licensed trucks will be allowed to collect garbage.
“We are doing a review of other activities inside the stadium and the city council will take a call on what action should be taken against the cricket association,” said R Sharadamma, Mayor, Bangalore City.
With the tussle getting worse, even Royal Challengers owner Vijay Mallya hinted the demand for VIP tickets might be unreasonable.
The cricket association seems to have little choice but to toe the corporation's line. But the question is – Will the Anil Kumble-led association buckle under such pressure?
