BANGALORE: Realising the need for inquiries in philosophy of education, Azim Premji University, Bangalore, is committed to fostering philosophical discussions concerning education and creating a robust atmosphere to facilitate such exchanges. To take this vision forward, the University is organising four regional seminars on philosophy of education. The focus of these seminars will be on teacher education and related themes like the development of talent and the creation of knowledge which can facilitate systemic change in education The focus on teacher education, however, does not limit the scope of the seminar. Contributions focusing on other relevant themes but pertinent to the pursuit of philosophy of education can be submitted. Themes for regional seminars include: Philosophy of education in contemporary India, Indian philosophies of education, Place of philosophy in Indian teacher education. Young and senior scholars are invited to submit abstracts not exceeding 400-500 words for papers they would like to present in the regional seminar closest to their area of domicile. The abstracts will be reviewed by a panel of experts and authors of selected submissions will be invited to write papers for the seminar. Please send your abstracts by email to: [email protected]. For more information, visit the University’s website: http://www.azimpremjiuniversity.edu.in/PoE States and union territories covered in regional seminars include Dehradun — Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh; Jaipur — Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Daman and Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and Maharashtra; Kolkata — West Bengal, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, Jharkhand, Bihar, Sikkim, and Orissa; and Pondicherry — Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Lakshadweep, Andaman and Nicobar, and Pondicherry. Final date for submission of abstracts is March 31. The University is also organising an international seminar on Philosophy of Education from January 16 to 18, 2013 in Bangalore. This seminar will address a wider range of topics and will feature several eminent philosophers of education from all over the world. Selected presentations from the regional seminars will also feature in the international seminar.
