New Delhi: The Supreme Court has dismissed a petition by Dr Rajesh and Nupur Talwar on examination of 13 witnesses in the Aarushi-Hemraj double murder case. The couple had sought an examination of 13 witnesses whose depositions were earlier dropped by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The court said it was not inclined to interfere with the High Court's order. It added that nothing stops the Talwar couple from calling those witnesses as defence witnesses.
This was the second time the Talwars had moved the apex court with the same plea as the court had rejected the plea earlier too, telling the couple to go to the High Court first. The Talwars had then filed their plea challenging the order of the special CBI court rejecting their plea for calling 13 other witnesses, including ADG (Law and Order) and the then CBI Joint Director Arun Kumar, to record their statements, in the Allahabad High Court.
The Allahabad High Court had also rejected the plea filed by the Talwars last week. The Talwars' contention was that the CBI has dropped those witnesses who may question their official line, which is that Rajesh Talwar and Nupur Talwar are prime suspects. Meanwhile, the trial in the CBI court in Ghaziabad continues.
