NEW DELHI: It seems the woes of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are not ending soon. After the Anna Hazare and Arvind Kejriwal rift, the AAP is facing another public embarrassment. AAP’s RK Puram candidate Shazia Ilmi is now accused of threatening her brother Rashid Ilmi, who is also contesting from R K Puram. Rashid has now asked for protection from the returning officer.
Here s his press release.
Fearing threat to life from her sister and AAP candidate from RK Puram Ms Shazia Ilmi, her brother and Independent candidate from R K Puram assembly constituency Mr. Rashid Ilmi on Tuesday demanded protection from the Returning officer (RO) of the constituency.
As per Mr. Ilmi, his sister has a history of indulging in violence and abusive behavior which can be vouched by their mother and now that he is contesting elections against her, he is expecting retribution from her. “Several times in the past, Ms. Shazia Ilmi has turned violent and even abused our mother. Now that I am contesting elections to expose her double standards in public life and getting good response from the people in my area, she is really angry at me. I believe that she could cause me bodily harm and thus I have written to Returning Officer so that he can recommend police protection for me,” said Mr. Ilmi.
“Ms Shazia Ilmi Malik – Candidate AAP and her election agent Mr.Irshad Ilmi can resort to abusive behavior and false complaints against me. Since, it is sensitive time because of elections, I would request you to make arrangements for my adequate security,” wrote Mr. Ilmi in his letter to the RO.
Along with the letter, Mr Ilmi has also enclosed the copy of complaints dated 10.8.11 and 11.8.11 against Ms Shazia to the SHO of Chaman ganj police station in Kanpur.
Meanwhile, Mr. Ilmi held several public interactions in the RK Puram constituency on Tuesday and listened to people’s problem. Buoyed by the tremendous response he is getting from across the constituency, Mr. Ilmi plans to double his efforts and try and solve the problems plaguing this constituency.
He also complained to the Election Commisionof india against the returning officer of R K Puram assembly seat for wrongfully for accepting the nomination papers of Mrs Shazia Ilmi, candidate of Aam Aadmi Party, with a request to reject her nomination with immediate effect for contesting the Delhi Legislative Assembly Elections 2013.
