7year old girl is mom to her sisters

TUMKUR: Moved by the sacrifice by a seven-year-old girl, a large hearted government school teacher has ensured that the lives of three little siblings are not ruined.The three sisters, who are virtually orphans, are now going to the government model higher primary school at Kyathasandra.One-year-old Lakshmi lost her mother when she was just two months old. Her father Anjanamurthy, a labourer at the market, was a drunkard and neglected his children.And the eldest of the sisters Saraswathi, all of seven years, took on the responsibility on her little shoulders and  played mother to the baby with the help of neighbours at SLN Nagar.She even enrolled her five-year-old sister Manjula at the school this year. But last Saturday, as she came to school to drop Manjula, with the baby in her hands, assistant teacher Rathnamma couldn’t help taking notice.The teacher, realising that the only thing that kept Saraswathi from joining school was the toddler in her arms, allowed the girl to attend school with the baby.And so, Saraswathi was enrolled into a Nali-Kali class — a bridge course for the drop outs. “Depending on how fast she picks up the lessons, she will be promoted to class II,” the teacher said. “The children are offered meals to take home,” says head master Boraiah.
