Srinagar: Two jawans of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were killed in a shootout with militants in Srinagar on Tuesday.
One CRPF personnel was killed on the spot and another succumbed to injuries in the hospital after militants attacked a patrolling party near Dal Gate.
The police have sealed the area and have launched a massive hunt for the militants.
Inspector General of CRPF, AP Maheshwari said, "Someone had taken a position in a nearby shop and shot at one of the constables. He died on the spot. Simultaneously one of his companion also fired at the other constable. We have recovered cartridges, certain other evidences have also come from the spot. We are hopeful of solving this case very soon."
Maheshwari added that the militants have, of late, changed their modus operandi by shooting at security personnel with pistols at close range in crowded markets.
A fortnight ago one policeman was killed and two injured, in firing by militants in the region.
