Guwahati: The Assam government has cancelled the admission of 13 MBBS students, who like the lead character in the movie Munnabhai MBBS, used impersonators to appear for them in the Combined Entrance Examination (CEE).
Like actor Sanjay Dutt in the film, the 13 students got admission in a MBBS course by asking impersonators to take the Common Entrance Exam (CEE) in their place.
Officials got suspicious when they found that candidates with 70 per cent marks in Higher Secondary Examination had failed to pass the CEE, but several persons who had just 50 per cent marks had passed the examination and even secured good ranks, Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Thursday.
A probe was ordered when an impersonator was caught writing the CEE recently. Forensic tests found that signatures of several candidates on the CEE application forms, exam attendance sheet and admission forms did not match, Sarma said.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi cancelled the 13 admissions and decided to admit waitlisted candidates, said Sarma.
