100 kg of ganja worth Rs 25 lakh seized

VISAKHAPATNAM: Police on Saturday seized 100 kgs of ganja worth over Rs 25 lakh and Rs 55,000 cash from four ganja smugglers while they were on their way to Narsipatnam from Gurrampalem junction of Rolugunta mandal in the district. Police also arrested six persons and seized four mobile phones.About 10 bags of ganja were kept on the road covered with rice bran bags. M Madhu, M Vijay Kumar, M Rajuvellu of Chennai of Tamil Nadu had procured the ganja from G Majugula and other tribal areas of the district from G Gowri Naidu and A Chinna to transport to Chennai.The Sheelavati quality dry ganja, which is in high demand in Tamil Nadu, was ready to be smuggled in an auto-rickshaw to Narsipatnam and later to Chennai. Police said some migrants from other States, who have opened shops and hotels in the agency areas, are encouraging tribals to engage in illegal trade. They said they produced the accused before court which sent them to judicial custody.
