the Hutchinson River Parkway boasts several notable landmarks along its route - making it a popular choice for travelers. While occasional traffic congestion can pose challenges (particularly at points like the Bruckner Interchange at its southern end), many find this route to be useful and convenient for their journeys.
Travel in Bronx County.
In Bronx County, the highway begins its route as the unsigned reference route NY-908A from the Bruckner Interchange where this parkway is an extension as essentially a continuation of I-678 from the junction containing the Cross Bronx, Whitestone, and Bruckner Expressways. It continues slightly northeast and passes Saint Raymond's Cemetery, before passing under the IRT Pelham Line west of Middletown Rd into Pelham Bay, intersects the Pelham Parkway, and crosses Amtrak's Northeast Corridor and I-95/New England Thruway while passing by the Bronx Behavioral Health Center, Montefiore Hutchinson Campus, Mallet Bay Plaza, and into Givan Creek. It passes over the Hutchinson River as the Hutchinson River Drawbridge before the exit (3) separates (as a fork) towards the park's center before passing through Thomas Pell's Wildlife Sanctuary and Split Rock (in the northwest corner of the sanctuary) and for the second intersection with the New England Thruway (I-95). In Bronx County, expect exits for Throggs Neck's I-678 (initial exit), Throggs Neck I-278 to I-95 (1A), Schuylerville (1B), Pelham Bay's Pelham Parkway (1C-D), Baychester's I-95 N (towards Co-Op City-New Haven) and S (towards Geo. Washington and Throgs Neck Bridges)(2A & 2B). Travel across the Hutchinson River Drawbridge. In Northern Bronx County, expect exits for Pelham Bay Park route to Orchard Beach & City Island (3) and Pelham Bay Park's I-95 N (4A; I-95's exit 14).
Travel in Westchester County.
In Westchester County, you begin traveling the windy route north - as the unsigned reference route NY-907W - passing US-1 (Boston Post Rd), Glover Field before it curves and heads generally northeast past Willson's Woods Park, the Metro-North Railroad's New Haven Line (near Pelham station) and Nature Study Woods, before heading northwest paralleling the Hutchinson River, before passing Twin Lakes County Park and exit 8, the Hutchinson River Lake's Reservoir 2 and heads northeast past the edge of Reservoir 3 then curving northwest before intersecting Mill Rd before passing Reservoir 1 and exit 9C at Wilmot Rd. It then passes as a 4-lane highway underneath NY-125 (exit 11) and the Quaker Ridge Country Club, before crossing over Mamaroneck Rd (exit 12) near Saxon Woods County Park and entering near the park's center at exit 13A-B, the Mamaroneck River (after exit 13A-B), turning northeast to enter NY-127's diamond interchange (exit 14) and the Maple Moor Golf Course. It passes over the Cross-Westchester Expressway/I-287 (exit 15A-B) (I-287) before forking northwest for I-684 in Harrison (16A) and another fork to NY-120 (exit 16B). It makes a southeast bend before the Lincoln Ave junction (exit 17), passing northeast as it enters North Ridge St, Rye Brook (18) and King St/NY-120A (exit 19A) before exiting the state and beginning another route name (Merrit Parkway) inside Connecticut.
