Adding New Members
Tap Chat. This is the tab at the bottom. If you aren't already logged into WhatsApp, enter your phone number and password to do so now.
Tap a group chat. You'll see your chats from most recent to least recent.
Tap the group subject. This is at the top of the screen.
Tap Add. This may also look like Add Members. If you'd prefer to send a link, tap Invite via Link (Android) or Invite to Group via Link (iOS).
Select a contact to add. You can scroll down or use the search bar. If you selected the link option, it will be automatically copied to your device's clipboard. Paste it into another messaging app or social media chat.
Tap the green checkmark. This may also look like Add. The user will be invited to the group chat. When they join, everyone in the chat will see the notification. If the Approve New Members feature is turned on, the request will need to be approved by the group chat's admin first. If you want to leave the group chat in the future, you can leave silently.
Creating a New Group
Tap New Chat. On Android devices, this will look like a green icon with a chat bubble.
Tap New group. You can find this in the drop-down menu.
Select a contact to add. Scroll down or use the search bar to find the user. You can add multiple contacts at once.
Edit the group (optional). You can change your group name, icon, and permissions. This can also be changed later. A group name can be up to 100 characters. To add a group icon, tap the camera icon and select: Take Photo, Choose Photo, Emoji & Stickers, or Search Web. Toggle on or off Disappearing messages. To change group settings, tap Group permissions.
Tap Create. This will create the group. On Android, this will look like a checkmark.
