New Delhi: On a three-match losing streak, Delhi Waveriders would be desperate to return to winning ways when they take on another laggards, Dabang Mumbai in a round-robin league match in the fourth edition of the Hockey India League, here on Tuesday.
The Waveriders did not have the best of outings in the ongoing HIL, having lost four out of seven games they played so far and are languishing at fifth spot in the six-team event with 17 points.
After a bright start to the season having registered wins in their opening matches, the Waveriders lost to defending champions Ranchi Rays before eking out a 4-3 win over Dabang Mumbai in the first outing between the two sides in Mumbai.
But thereafter, it turned out to be a downward slide for the Delhi team as they lost three successive games, two of which came on home turf, and now they find themselves in a precarious situation.
Come Tuesday, the Waveriders would be hoping to snap that losing streak and give their home fans something to cheer about and also return to the reckoning for a top-four finish.
Interestingly, Dabang Mumbai witnessed a completely reverse outing in the tournament so far.
Unlike their opponents, Dabang Mumbai had a horrendous start to their campaign, losing four games on the trot before bouncing back to beat title holders Ranchi Rays 7-5 and then eking out a close 2-1 win over Uttar Pradesh Wizards in their last two encounters.
For Dabang Mumbai, tomorrow's match will not only provide them an opportunity to avenge their loss against Waveriders at the home turf but also prolong their wining momentum.
The Mumbai outfit is presently lying at the bottom of the table with just 14 points from six games and a win tomorrow will boost their confidence.
