The deal is expected to be worth about £15 million.

London: English Premiere League football club Portsmouth have accepted a bid from Tottenham to sign England striker Jermain Defoe on a five-year contract.

The deal, which is expected to be worth about £ 15 million, would mean Defoe returning to the club he left under a year ago.

Defoe scored 17 goals in 36 games for Portsmouth, comprising eight in his first seven matches and nine more this season.

The Premier League's richest club Manchester City are close to inking another big transfer deal within 48 hours.

City are expected to make a one-off payment of around £18 million pounds to Blackburn Rovers for their long-time target Roque Santa Cruz.

Meanwhile, Even though the transfer window doesn't throw any intimidating prospects for Manchester United, Carlos Tevez has sounded out a clear warning demanding clarity on his future at the club.

Tevez said he wants to stay on at Old Trafford, but will be forced to leave if his ongoing contract negotiations are not sorted out.

He also criticised United manager Sir Alex Ferguson over reports suggesting Tevez had rejected a new contract offer at Old Trafford.

Tevez said neither his agent or he received any new contract from the club.
