The defender becomes the first signing of the Moyes era for an undisclosed fee thought to be in the region of £1.6m.
Manchester: Manchester United have confirmed the signing of 20 year old defender Guillermo Varela from Penarol. The defender becomes the first signing of the Moyes era for an undisclosed fee thought to be in the region of £1.6m.
Varela underwent a medical in Manchester this morning before agreeing terms with United, and this evening the club have released a statement on the official website confirming that they had secured the right back's signature.
Varela, who has met his team mates having undergone a trial at the club last month, will have to wait to join up with his team mates though, as he immediately jetted off to Turkey as the Uruguayan u20 international will be participating in the u20 World Cup.
