Manchester City claim they withdrew from Kaka deal
Kaka's expected move from Milan to Manchester City is not happening.

New Delhi: The saga is over, but the drama continues - Manchester City now claim that they pulled out of negotiations to sign Kaka, and it was not Rossoneri supremo Silvio Berlusconi calling the shots.

Kaka's expected move from Milan to Manchester City was on the verge of completion, with a fee even reported to have been agreed, only for Silvio Berlusconi to announce that the player was "unsellable".

All negotiations appear to have now been terminated, but City now claim that it was they who decided to end their interest in the 2007 Ballon d'Or winner.

City's executive chairman Garry Cook told the club website, "Whilst Manchester City Football Club has an obvious interest in world class players of the quality of Kaka, we owe it to our fans that such a transfer must work on every level; commercially, financially, in terms of results on the field and within Manchester City's broader community."

Sky Sports have also reported that sources within Man City have declared that they cancelled the deal and in fact never entered negotiations with the player himself.

"Manchester City sources have told me in the last few moments that it's them who terminated discussions with AC Milan tonight - not the other way around - not the way it's coming out from Italy," said a Sky Sports reporter.

"Manchester City have not even had a chance to speak with the player.

It's a very very different story coming out from Manchester City.

"Berlusconi tried to put out the idea that the fans have spoken and that they've bowed to the pressure of the fans.

"From Manchester it's a very different story. Which one you believe - who knows?"
