New Delhi: Dempo SC have braced themselves for the Asian competitions as they are to register Brazilian Rodrigo Silva as a replacement for Congolese striker Mboyo Iyomi who has been ruled out for the season.

Mboyo Iyomi suffered a back injury in the game against East Bengal back in November last year and since then, hasn’t featured for Dempo. He did return to training but his condition went from bad to worse as he picked up another injury; this time in the groin.

The Dempo management have reportedly given the green signal for the striker to leave for his country as he wouldn’t be able to participate in any of the matches.

The Goan side has a Champions League play-off against Al Sharjah of UAE later this month. If Dempo manage to win, then they play the most competitive club event in the continent or in other case, shall feature in the AFC Cup.

Speaking to Goal.com, Dempo coach Armando Colaco said, “Yes, we have asked Rodrigo to join us. He is expected to arrive on Sunday.”

For those unaware, Rodrigo is the younger brother of Dempo’s star midfielder Beto and plays as an attacking medio as well. He had an unsuccessful trial with Churchill Brothers when the now Mohun Bagan coach Karim Bencherifa was at the helm of the affairs.
