Ayush and Piyush Goel, the two brothers from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, suffer from a serious ailment, Cerebral Palsy. It’s a condition that affects movement and posture, caused by damage that impacts the developing brain, most often before birth. As per Ayush, they were even denied admission to the school based on their condition.
Ayush and Piyush’s mother Sudha Goyal said that their weight was 900 grams at the time of birth. This was a big cause of concern for her because 900 grams can be considered far less than normal weight. What added to the cause of concern for Sudha was Ayush and Piyush’s problem with Cerebral Palsy.
Due to this problem, both brothers had to face difficulties in each activity, i.e.- from walking to sitting. They, however, remained resilient. Due to this relentless struggle, they achieved accomplishments in the field of education and completed their Bachelor of Education. They have now decided to complete their PhD (Doctor of Philosophy).
Piyush remembered how he and his brother had to complete their studies from the Shantiniketan, a prestigious university founded by Rabindranath Tagore. He said that his peers used to ridicule him but he remained undeterred and concentrated solely on his objective. Both Ayush and Pyush have been awarded the Sarvshresth Divyangjan, a National award for the empowerment of persons with disabilities. This award has been conferred on them by the Government of Uttar Pradesh.
Ayush and Piyush talked about the problems faced by the students in the Board exams. They requested the parents to not pressurise their children to obtain good marks. Instead, they opined that the parents should convince their wards to perform their best in the examinations. He said that every child has a hidden talent and should not be compared with others.
